People are often unreasonable and self-centered . Forgive them anyway . If you are kind , people may accuse you of ulterior motives . Be kind anyway . If you are honest , people may cheat you . Be honest anyway . If you find happiness , people may be jealous . Be happy anyway . The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow . Do good anyway . Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough . Give your best anyway . For you see , in the end , it is between you and God . It was never between you and them anyway .
Happiness is the consequence of personal effort . You fight for it, strive for it , insist upon it , and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it . You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings . And once you have achieved a state of happiness , you must never become lax about maintaining it . You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever , to stay afloat on top of it .
Sometimes waiting and hoping for a miracle only prevents you from moving forward and being happy . Love isn't supposed to be that hard . God hears you and He answered you , you just don't like His answer .
